SHELTER & HOUSING IN THE VALLEY

A place to start.
A way forward.

Finding a place to stay can feel complicated. Start with the right contact, understand the process, and take one step at a time.

No account. No application on this site.

A listing is a starting point, not a bed confirmation. If there is immediate danger, call 911.

A QUICK GUIDE FOR CASE MANAGERS

Understand the route before the referral.

Three pathways to understand. Each arrow is a next step to check—not a promise of admission.

Sources read
Maricopa County · a regional system

Coordinated entry connects people with participating services. Different organizations run the access points and shelters; city-specific programs may use a different referral route.

Regional source

REGIONAL FAMILY ACCESS

Families with children

Maricopa County families with a child under 18.

  1. Start with 211

Connect with the Family Housing Hub pathway. Visit an access point only if directed or unable to call.

  2. Screening & a safe plan

Adults needing shelter join the call. A specialist reviews the crisis and possible safe alternatives.

  3. Referral, when appropriate

Shelter matching depends on need and openings. A waitlist is not a reservation or first-come queue.

  4. Confirm with the provider

Stay reachable and report changes. A Hub referral does not by itself mean a shelter has accepted the family.

The Hub serves the regional system; it is not a separate application to every family shelter.

Sources & what they support
  • Family Housing Hub

Phone-first access, screening, need-based matching and the distinction between referral and acceptance.

PHX Good’s diagram summarizes the published route. Confirming fit and arrival are case-manager checks; no placement was observed.

REGIONAL SINGLE-ADULT ACCESS

Adults without children

The adult entry route is separate from the Family Housing Hub.

  1. Find an adult access point

Start at the Brian Garcia Welcome Center, or ask 211 for a closer coordinated-entry contact.

  2. Assessment & next steps

Work with the access team on needs, immediate services and a plan. An assessment does not reserve a bed.

  3. Check the specific program

Ask which shelter or housing route fits, how its intake works, and what remains to be confirmed.

  4. Confirm before the trip

Obtain the provider’s current instructions. A referral or campus visit is not a placement guarantee.

These are navigation steps, not a rule that every emergency shelter requires a coordinated-entry assessment first.

Sources & what they support
  • Maricopa Regional Continuum of Care

Identifies the regional adult and family starting contacts.

  • Keys to Change

Describes adult assessment, planning and local access points. Published hours and contact numbers differ across sources; confirm directly.

PHX Good’s diagram summarizes the published route. Confirming fit and arrival are case-manager checks; no placement was observed.

CITY / PROVIDER-SPECIFIC ACCESS

Bridge shelter

Check the named program. There is no single bridge-shelter intake route verified here.

  1. Connect with local outreach

Start with the city outreach team or an existing navigator serving the person’s location.

  2. Identify the bridge program

Ask who it serves and who can refer. Some programs have referral-only or additional housing requirements.

  3. Provider checks the route

The team must confirm this program’s eligibility, referral process and available space.

  4. Get confirmed instructions

Arrange arrival only after the responsible team confirms the next step. Do not assume walk-in admission.

Tempe is an example, not the contact for every city. This lane is not an automatic next step after the family or adult lane.

Sources & what they support
  • City of Tempe · HOPE

Describes local outreach, bridge or other appropriate shelter placement, and housing navigation. Ask HOPE to confirm the current facility and arrival arrangements.

  • Community Bridges · Shelters & Outreach

Describes navigation teams, shelters and partner coordination. It does not establish a universal public admission process.

  • Native American Connections · Surprise Bridge Housing

Describes referral-only bridge housing intended for households already approved for rental assistance. Its intake wording needs clarification for an individual household; it is not a general adult referral to the Family Housing Hub.

PHX Good’s diagram summarizes the published route. Confirming fit and arrival are case-manager checks; no placement was observed.

Assessment ≠ referral ≠ confirmed placement.

Before sending someone: confirm the contact, the current intake status, the next action and a fallback if no space is offered.

A different route may be safer or more appropriate: survivor support · under 18, on your own · veterans.
